Lydia is very talented. I like her style of singing...it's very RnB...anyway, I've got a question for the Thai members in here. When you listen to a Thai pop song that is sung in a western manner, does your language sound weird or foreign to you? I'm not asking if it sounds "bad", because Thai pop lyrics obviously sound much better than spoken Thai language. Are there some Thai people who don't like Thai pop music because the pronunciations used in the song sound too "farang"-ish (westernized)? So to Thai elders, does Thai pop music (the pronunciations) sound weird or foreign to them?

I'm an audio/recording engineer so my ears are pretty keen....it's quite obvious to me that spoken Thai sounds very different than the westernized Thai pronunciations used in Thai pop music.

I'm not trying to insult Thai pop music, because some Lao pop artists are also singing in a western manner so they are also pronouncing some Lao words in a very farang-ish way. Some Lao people are way too traditional and therefore do not like the westernized pronunciations of Lao words, but since I'm an audio engineer who understands the importance of singing in tune, I'm actually in favor of listening to Lao and Thai pop music that has incorporated westernized pronunciations. Both of our languages are tonal, so in order for us to sing in tune, we would have to change our tones to suit the song...meaning that the pronunciations used in the song may not necessarily be similar to how we would pronounce the words in our normal speech.

Hmm.. I don't think there's any reason behind their names. I think it's just their nick name or the name that they use for their career. I know if you are a native English speaker, these names may sound weird to you.
