PAD accuses UDD of insulting royal institution
People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) coordinator Suriyasai Katasila on Monday criticised the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) for having the image of Their Majesties the King and Queen together with the phrase 'privileged thieves' on the same protesting stage.
Mr Suriyasai accused the UDD of having hidden intentions and believing that the royal institution is on the opposite side of the pro-Thaksin Shinawatra group. He said the UDD must put the picture of Their Majesties at proper places to show their loyalty.
Responding to the UDD's comment that its mass protest was similar to the PAD's, Mr Suriyasai said the UDD will have to understand the PAD's main objective. The PAD fought for a political form while the UDD stood up for only ousted prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, he noted.
He said the PAD leaders never wanted the police to use aggressive measures to disperse the UDD protesters, adding that the PAD urged all sides to respect people's rights to protest.
Puea Thai party MP and UDD core member Jatuporn Prompan said he was not aware who put the image of Their Majesties on stage but reiterated that his group had no intention to insult the royal institution.
He said the UDD wanted to show respect to the royal institution but the group had already remove the image from the stage.
As for the 'privileged thieves' statement, Mr Jatuporn said the UDD only aimed to attack Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva without any other hidden intentions.
