I love to listen our regional songs. All of them, I can hear and feel their accent สำเนียง in their songs.

Isan accent, Northeast Thai
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V4G-d7NnbtM

PakTay accent, southern Thai
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sCoMIm0EUe8

Lanna, Northern Thai
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UE-BTz5doR8

Central Thai and PakTay
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kAOxqn2RqZg

Central Thai
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GvESuQYzo_E

But listen to this Lao song.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o2d5-Eo77SQ

comparing to our Thai song
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=88OAXYcPtqY

Listen to this Lao song, It sounds like they are singing in Thai LOL icon_smile.gif I can't hear Lao accent (Samniang สำเนียง). No offend but they are singing with no different with Thai except few native Lao words. I only heard Lao accent just at the end of the clip when they speak not sing. Are modern Lao ppl especially in Vientiane who speak standard Lao, influenced by our Thai language? They also pronounce cluster consonant "KW, GW" (khwaam, Gwaang ความ, กว้าง) like us whereas all other Lao speakers (urban Laos, Isan) pronounce no cluster consonant (Khuam, Guang ควม, ก้วง). Listening to Lao songs, it's just like listen to Thai songs. No Laoness in them.

I love this song, it reminds us of our southern heritage, thanks nah KN Anuvong! I haven't return to my hometown so long since my grandparents had gone last three years, they also living in our house not at the village anymore before they passed away. We use to listen to Chanak radio station and they always play this kind of song, really memorable experience and made me dropping my tears bawling.gif . I hate living in Kuala Lumpur, love Thailand and my hometown more. I remember when we have to move to Kuala Lumpur from North because my father had to be re-located, I have a very hard time speaking in Malay, hahahaha, my mother use to speak in Paktai Thai at home, so do my siblings but now they are not fluent compared to me because I spent my youth time at the village. I was sent back to my hometown when I'm 13, as my mother want me to learn Thai properly from my grandparents. So, touching seeing Po Yen.

b!tch, The THAI language itself is the mixture of Lao language ( more than 90%) with Mon/Khmer.

I saw many words in Thai music use Lao words.

Sounds like u jealous that some of Lao music sound even better than some Thai standard music embarassedlaugh.gif beerchug.gif

Well of course, almost the whole part of SEA mainland is actually under Angkor, Chenla, and Funan sovereignty before Sukhothai reached down, that's history and everybody knows. The culture from these kingdoms and Ancient Khmer Empires whether people accept it or not is practiced all over the mainland and influencing everybody, least or almost all. There are local Khmer ethnics and other Austroasian tribes in Thailand just like local Tai-Lao speaking people in the country before the modern country of Thailand is derived today. Anyone practicing Khmer culture doesn't mean that they are from Cambodia, there are also people practicing Khmer culture in other countries today but they are not holding Cambodian citizenship. Also the influence from Tamil and other ancient Indian merchants from various parts of East and West India can't be avoided in Southern part of Thailand facing Andaman sea especially South Indian kingdom of Chola Nakhorn attacking South Thai around 11th and 10th C.

I got to give Anouvong some credit here. He makes a really good point. I notice the same thing about people in Viengchan and music. I think they are being influence by Thai music and language. Don't get me wrong, I myself am from Viengchan but I not from Viengchan city. I in a town outside of Viengchan city.

I don't even listen to Viengchan city music. I can't stand their accent. I feel their accent is very annoying. I once ask my mother if they just started talking like that or did they talk like that before. My mother told me thats how they talk from the getgo. Everytime I hear people from Viengchan city talk I just want to slap them and say wake the F ck up, especially the white girl Alexandra.

The only accent I can relate to and feel comfortable with is the Lanna song cause its really close to my towns accent and vocabulary.

Im glad you love the song. This song is really beautiful, he sang in both South and Central accent, the lyrics is also very touchy. Love between central and south teens like their ancestors poo-yaa's love. Most of south and Isan songs describe homesickness which can make anyone who live far away from home drop his/her tear easily. I can feel it bawling.gif And yes, Po/Poo Yen is really great ordinary man. biggthumpup.gif

No different in accent with Thai, except different native Lao words that make it sounds Lao.

That's exactly is the answer of my question. When Lao sing in Standard Lao (Viengchan) accent is just like Thai accent, no Lao accent like other Lao speakers. You sing like the Thai, pronounce cluster consonant like the Thai whereas other urban Lao don't. This just can't help thinking your standard Lao today is influenced by Thai.

Dont think much, more than 90% of Thai words are the same with the Lao. I m not surprise that Thai music sounds similar to our Language beerchug.gif

I dont know the group Cell so I cant tell you if their Lao from Laos.If they are Lao and can mimic Thai that would be great wouldnt it?That would be their advantage.

I dont know if you were referring to all thai's or just Bird Thongchai can mimic and sing with Lao accent .If you did meant that I would disagree with you .I dont think Bird thongchai can mimic and sing in Tai Luang Prabang accent.

Dont think much, more than 90% of Thai words are the same with the Lao. I m not surprise that Thai music sounds similar to our Language beerchug.gif

Have u ever noticed that American music and English/Australia/Canadian/Newzealand standard music, sounds similar or even the same?

Who influenced by who? English by American or Vice versa? or Aussie or Newz or Canadian or ....?

I think you still don't understand. All Thai/Lao have their various accent. In the first post, Ive shown our Thai regional accent songs. We can distinguish all different accent even Isan accent which is closer to Lao more than Thai. BUT, why I can't hear any Lao accent in your standard Lao song? Even standard Thai and standard Lao are different accent. I can hear Lao accent only when they are rap/hiphop but not pop music.

rap/hiphop Lao, with Lao accent

pop, no different with Thai accent

standard Lao ads, sing with no different with Thai accent
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o2d5-Eo77SQ

northern Thai pop, can hear some Lanna accent

Have u ever surprised that American music and English/Australian/Canadian/Newzealand standard music, sounds similar or even the same?

No, I think not.

Let say for example the English accent in the music sang by the corrs (Irish), Spice Girls (English), Celine dion(Canadian), Linkin Park (American) sounds similar, Can u conclude that who influenced by who?

The point is that there is various accent in Thai and Lao accent. But it's not a big surprise when the accent in the music sounds similar.
Just like the accent in the music of the corrs, Spice girls, Linkin park or even Scorpions(German)

The Thai language itself if remove some of Thai/Khmer words(e.g., KRUP etc) and some newly created word such as "Swatdee", then it just identical to Lao. LOL

Can you tell me what Lao song Bird Thongchai sung. I say it would be harder for a thai person to mimic and sing a Lao song in a Lao accent than a Lao person to mimic and sing a thai song with a thai accent.

Are you attention deficit disorder? LOL
you can keep debating to the topic just few comments hahaha, now you are trolling again LOL

Native Lao is Native Lao. Native Thai is Native Thai. Some common Tai words may be shared but not all. You say Ngua, Khuay not Wua, Khwaai. You don't pronouce R, Ch, cluster consonants. The two languages are different. Don't be too self-centered. Lao is not the universe but a small country deep inside SEA. LOL

Swaddee is newly created? Whow, I have to meddle in, I'm sorry. Swaddee is used since 4th C AD, it is Bali-Sanskrit from Svasti Srih. It's not Mon, Malay nor Khmer and not Tai-Lao. Ancient Indian culture in Thailand and in Western part of SEA come directly from ancient India, not from Cambodian. You can check them in Southern inscriptions and also in Srivijay Inscriptions, Svasthi Srih Sakavarsatitah Shuklaphakshah.......We can make cross check with Bali-Sanskrit term. Siam is an Empire itself from 13th C AD-17th C AD, even we in South do accept that although our native ancestors had been here since 1st C AD. Indian-Pallava culture is more prominent in South Thai than in Cambodia, we know that and many old people in Koh Mark (Penang) can speak in Tamil and Hindi.

Newly created as Thai language.

Hmm, as I know, before 1939 the Thais (Siamese) dont use Swatdee as greeting.

The words Swatdee using as greeting and the name "Thailand" is newly created/used in 1939.

b!tch, the problem is as I mentioned earlier: More than 90% of Thai words is Lao. The rest of them are Mon/Khmer/Chinese.
U guys just added the original Lao word with Krup, Swatdee,...etc...and change's Lao's word of H to R to sounds like Khmer, S to Ch to souds like to Chinese.

And Claim that Lao sing in Thai? LOL embarassedlaugh.gif

There's no such the word THAI or THAI language before 1939 got that?

Siamese language is the mixture of Tai/Lao and Mon/Khmer.
