I always had a great time in Thailand, and planning to be there again soon. I am Khmer, for those who wondered about my nationality. My tour this time was Sanam Luang, the royal place, boat riding the Chao Praya rive-love it very much, shopping at patpong, pratunam, anusawari chai samorapoom.

Hahaha, there are also many hia in the lake at my university hostels. That's so scary when we have to walk by the lake to the classes every morning, they seem like mutant snakes with feet and crocodile in the same time, yucckk.

In suan lum, they are all over the park, especially the inner island. I accidentally got hit by a large hia. Its tail like a sword, felt very sharp pain. That's why I said it's very scarrry hahaha.

Suvarnabhumi airport from flickrby Strabanephotos This is a wonderful sculpture everybody will see at the Departure Hall in Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok. The scene depicted is a famous episode in the "Indian Puranas". This is symbolically celebrated in India as the famous 'Kumbha mela'.
'Indra, the chief of the Devas' upon inadvertently angering a priest was cursed by him thereby made poor. He then approached 'Brahma' who suggested him to obtain the 'nectar of immortality' (Amritha) by churning the milk ocean ('Ksheer Sagara'= Ksheer meaning milk and Sagara meaning Ocean). This mammoth task could not be undertaken by the Devas alone so they took the help of the 'Asuras' also. The mountain 'Mandhara' was used as the pole and 'Vasuki, the chief of Serpents' was used as the rope. The mountain was supported by Lord Vishnu who took the incarnation of 'Kurma' meaning turtle.
Finally they began churning the Ocean and a deadly poison known as "Halahala" popped up. Lord Shiva drank the poison and Goddess Parvathi, his wife squeezed his neck to prevent it from going down. The poison settled at his neck coloring it blue. This gave Lord Shiva the name 'Neela Kanta' meaning one with a blue colored neck.
Theafter so many precious objects emerged during churning. Finally Lord Dhanwanthary appeared with the pot containing the nectar of immortality - the Amritha. There began a dispute between the participating parties and finally Asuras managed to get Amritha from the Devas but Lord Vishnu disguised as a beautiful lady retrieved it from them and passed it to the Devas who attained immortality by drinking it driving the Asuras, the Demons into the dark world.
We can see the Devas and Asuras holding the Serpent's tail and head end respectively on either side. The turtle is also seen. On top of the mountain we see Lord Vishnu.
This is a beautiful and magnificent sculpture which is meant to signify the glory and prosperity of the new modern Airport.
There are many versions to this mythological tale in the epics.

From flickrby kate bygrave Suvarnabhumi Airport, Bangkok's new airport is very impressive. The scale is absolutely enormous.
Once the SkyTrain link is complete it will be even better; giving it a direct public transport link into the centre of Bangkok. No more confused taxi rides!!
by kees0r Arriving at the Suvarnabhumi Airport, we sat around, waiting for the tickets of our flight to Yangoon. Terrible music was in the air and i asked myself why someone would do that to so many people as I realized listening harder, that there was not only music hearable. I concentrated on some kind of humming noise, wich turned out to be the massive Airconditioning System with those huge pipes you can see in the picture playing together with tons and tons of glass wich the outer walls are all of.

Too sad that people in Thailand think I am a foreigner though I am Thai.

However I think the point is that I may look more Tai or Southern East Asian than the average Thai. When I was in Chonburi and Pattya - that's south of Bangkok - I felt like being in a whole different country after arriving from Chiang Rai in North Thailand (way more pure Khon Tai here) to visit my cousin who work their for a Japanese company producing technic. People there looked very different. Very much like Khamen people.

I have to agree with your observation about the people from the Southern Thailand. Most people there are dark and do look like Khmer people. Most likely they are Khmer; I don't mean Khmer as in Cambodian national; but Khmer as in native people of that land. Whether they speak Khmer or not is another story. Just as I would blend in as another Khmer person when I am in Cambodia.

People from Thailand and Cambodia have about the same racial/ethnic make-up. There are people who have Khmer/native ancestry, Chinese, Viets, Cham and Laos. Some people are just plain mixed.

We believe 'You are Thai!' with Jek descendant like Teenoi & Nhoona, so don't sweat.

Regardless of your make-up bureaucratic story, you still look Non-Thai to me.
