A lot of koreans in korea i meet online says speaking english or being a foreigner(white) will get you to be on top of the social pyramid. Does this happen to be true?

The thing is im always on sites like daum, naver, well not always but often because I speak fluent korean and im still very korean although i've lived in the US for a long time.

I'm a 'white foreigner', and I don't think I've ever been regarded as the top of any pyramid.

well actually this is how korean refer white foreigners as. due to the way koreans are attached and obsessed with "speaking english". but i guess for foreigners like you, you take it more as superficial or curiosity thing.

by the way captain, theres captain america, captain corea and... whats the other character on the far left?

Well, I noticed white foreigners do get more attention than say Asian foreigners. They stand out more and Koreans are more curious about them. I wouldn't say they're treated with some kind of special treatment, but I can imagine why some might view it that way.
Yer
It's sort of true.
People won't be worshipping you per se but you'll get a lot of respect/envy for being able to speak fluent English.
Even better is if you can speak both Korean and English fluently. That means you've mastered both cultures.

Which Koreans refer to White Westerners that way? I know hundreds of Koreans, I've been here for nearly 8 years, and not one of them have called me out on being the top of any social pyramid. Perhaps they've been neglecting their duties?

They think a lot of things about foreigners - there are any number of 'myths'.

-Forigners get special treatment here.
-Foreigners can't eat spicy food.
-Foreigners can't use chopsticks.
-Foreign teachers all make over 5 million per month.
-Foreigners are only here for sex and money.

Wow

What generalizations you make about Koreans and what Koreans think about Foreigners.

I guess the generalizations you are doing makes you a generalizer too now LOL

Those are things that have been asked of me on numerous occasions. I'm not saying that all Koreans say/think those things, but there's been enough ofthem to imprint it on my memory.

I hate it when they assume I can't eat spicy foods. I love spicy foods and always order spicy Korean foods. Most of the time it's not even spicy, but there were a few times that they weren't lying. Most Korean food aren't nearly as spicy as some Thai foods.
