Nominees For The 2006 MTV Asia Awards Announced

Thailand - MTV Asia today announced nominees for the fifth annual MTV Asia Awards (MAAs). The Asian extravaganza will be held at Siam Paragon on 6 May, 2006, in Thailand’s brand new, state of the art entertainment complex, in the centre of one of Asia’s most dynamic and vibrant cities. The channel also announced that Haier Electrical Appliances, Tourism Authority of Thailand and Thai Airways International Public Company Limited are the Official Partner Sponsors of the MTV Asia Awards 2006.

Nominees
More than 50 Asian and International artists have been nominated at Asia’s biggest pan-regional music event which will be filmed before a live audience. The voting for these nominees will begin on March 1, 2006.

My Chemical Romance, who have consolidated a reputation for brilliant, biting and boundary-leaping rock and roll have bagged three nominations while the sensational James "You're Beautiful" Blunt has been nominated in two categories. Asian stars Stefanie Sun (Singapore) and Jay Chou (Taiwan) have been nominated for the 5th consecutive year while Wang Lee Hom (Taiwan), Tata Young (Thailand), Asha Bhosle (India), Too Phat (Malaysia) are the local hot favorites. Nominee Simon Webb, whose debut single "Lay Your Hands" stormed into the U.K. charts at No. 4 last August and remained in the Top 10 for an amazing three weeks will be attending the MTV Asia Awards 2006. He will also be joined by Lee Ryan who has just released his self titled album with recent hits like "Army Of Lovers" and "Turn Your Car Around."

The Theme – Asian Animation
Set in a mythical Asian city of the distant future, this years MTV Asia Awards enters the world of Asian Animation, blending eastern and western influences together. Viewers and fans will be able to take part in an epic cyberpunk story of a quest for missing relics that have the power to restore good to a world gone bad. Using animation for the first time, elements of the story will be available in the lead up to the awards online, on mobile and of course finally concluding with the show itself.

In 2005, the MTV Asia Awards was repositioned into a global benefit, in support of the recovery efforts taking place in Asia, following the aftermath of the tsunami. Kelly Clarkson And Wang Leehom To Host, Korn Joins List Of Performers At The MTV Asia Awards 2006

Bangkok/Singapore/Hong Kong - MTV Asia Pacific today announced that Kelly Clarkson and Wang Leehom will make their debut to host a televised awards show at the fifth annual MTV Asia Awards. It was also announced that KoЯn will join the roster of artists including Lee Ryan and Simon Webbe who are set to perform at the MTV Asia Awards 2006 in Bangkok at the Siam Paragon on 6 May 2006.

Kelly Clarkson's debut album, Thankful, released in 2003, proved her to be the next sensation to glorify the music world. Her success continues with the release of the phenomenal album, Breakaway, which sold over 8.5 million copies worldwide, including four No. 1 singles "Breakaway," "Since U Been Gone," "Behind These Hazel Eyes" and "Because Of You." They haven't announced the performers yet. Mostly winners from each Asian country will perform. ^_^

Japan is not on the list because it has the MTV Video Music Awards Japan which will be held later. Chinese market also have MTV CCTV Music Honors.

BANGKOK/SINGAPORE/HONG KONG - MTV Asia Pacific today announced that Kelly Rowland, the soul of ex-Destiny's Child, is set to host with Wang Leehom at the 5th annual MTV Asia Awards.

American rock band Hoobastank, Philippines' No. 1 alternative rock band Rivermaya and Japan's hip-hop super group Teriyaki Boyz will perform at this year's MTV Asia Awards, joining the lineup of previous announced performers including KoЯn, Lee Ryan and Simon Webbe. Another top draw will be the presence of pop giants such as Kangta of Korea, Tata Young and Thaitanium of Thailand, Vanness Wu of Taiwan and Vicky Zhao of mainland China.

It was also announced that Same Same, Skye Sweetnam and winner of Spankin' New Aussie Artist at the 2006 MTV Australia Video Music Awards -- The Veronicas will be attending this year’s awards ceremony. The MTV Asia Awards 2006 will take place at Siam Paragon in Bangkok on May 6.

As one of the founding members of Destiny's Child, Kelly Rowland rose to fame with the group in 1998 and became one of the most successful R&B acts of all time. In 2003, Kelly released her first solo album, Simply Deep, with smash hit "Dilemma" featuring Nelly, which won Kelly her first Grammy Award for Best Rap/ Sung Collaboration the same year. Kelly has also extended her career with acting, and is giving her fair share back to the world by actively involving in diverse charity organisations. She is currently in the studio working on her self-titled solo album which is due for release in July and her hosting talent will undoubtedly be welcomed with much admiration by her Asian fans at the event come May.

BANGKOK/SINGAPORE/HONG KONG – MTV today announced that Canadian singer and songwriter Daniel Powter, Korean R&B sensation Se7en and Hong Kong supermodel Maggie Q have all joined the line-up at the MTV Asia Awards 2006 being held Saturday May 6 at Siam Paragon in Bangkok. They join the star-studded list of previously announced artists and celebrities attending including Hoobastank, Kangta, KOЯN, Lee Ryan, Rivermaya, Same Same, Simon Webbe, Tata Young, TERIYAKI BOYZ, Thaitanium, The Veronicas, Vanness Wu and Vicky Zhao with more presenters and performers to be announced for the star-studded show.
